How on earth do we get bedtime back on track ready for school next week?
Don’t wait until next week, start now…
Bring bedtime forward by 15 mins every few days
Late bedtimes and slower mornings are one of the many benefits of the summer holidays. But as the start of term approaches you might be wondering how you’re going to get everyone out the house by 8am next week.
The best thing to do is start now and bring bedtime forward gradually – 15 mins every few days. It’s really hard to make a big change to bedtime quickly, but this approach helps to shift the body clock.
It’s not just bedtime that needs shifting though. Don’t forget to also:
-
Shift mealtimes earlier, particularly breakfast and supper
-
Wake them a little earlier each morning
-
Remove any naps that have crept back in
Making some gradual changes now will likely make those first mornings back to school or nursery a little easier.
When are you planning to start the bedtime shift, this week or next? Or are you leaving it to the last minute?!
